Caregiver Issues

Kinship caregivers are very skilled at parenting, but there may be situations when a kinship caregiver may have to deal with certain behaviors that may be unfamiliar to him/her. Dealing with a child who has been sexually or physically abused, or a child who has been diagnosed with ADHD/ADD or Attachment Reactive Disorder, can be very difficult. In order to assist you in understanding these situations, as well as dealing with them, kinship caregivers may be able to attend various workshops that are offered throughout the year. Prior approval is required for attendance. Please refer to the following list of topics that have been covered in past workshops. If any of the topics are of interest to you, please contact the Kinship Navigator of Summit County for additional attendance information:

  • Understanding the Use of Medication
  • Understanding the Sexually Abused Child
  • Parenting the Emotionally Disturbed Child
  • Juvenile Firesetters
  • Attachment and Separation Issues
  • Re-parenting Skills
  • Communication and Life Transition
  • Parent/Child Visitation
  • Implementing Discipline
